Hello! My name is Roman Quiroga and I teach Accounting 1, 2, and Financial Analysis at United South High School. I look forward to a productive semester with you!

Accounting I Course Description:

In Accounting I, students will investigate the field of accounting, by interpreting, classifying, summarizing, analyzing, and communicating accounting information for a service business. Students will formulare and interpret financial information for use in management decision making. 

 

Accounting II Course Description:

In Accounting II, students will be presented a complete accounting cycle for a merchandising business that is organized as a corporation. Accounting II explores purchases, sales, cash payments, cash receipts, and general journals. In addition, students will analyze how to account for sales tax charges on merchandise and prepare financial statements. 

 

Financial Analysis  Course Description:

In Financial Analysis, students will develop analytical skills by actively evaluating financial results of multiple businesses, interpreting results for stakeholders, and presenting strategic recommendations for performance improvement. In addition, this course is also designed to teach the basics of tax law and tax return preparation. The student will answer frequently asked tax law questions. Students are encouraged to join VITA to assist taxpayers in filing an accurate and complete return. It is mandatory for the student to test and become certified to be a volunteer return preparer. Students are required to volunteer for the VITA program in the spring semester in order to participate in extracurricular VITA functions.

1:30pm-2:50pm- 4th Block (Financial Analysis)

2:55pm-4:15pm- 5th Block (Accounting I)

 

Grading Policy:

The grading policy for this course will follow the following High School Grading Guidelines:

  • All high school students will receive a progress report every 3 weeks of the nine week period. 

  • Late assignments/projects will be penalized up to 3 instructional days at 10 points per day; after the third day, students may receive a zero. 

  • Extra credit will be related to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in that subject. Extra credit will be made available to all students in the course. 

  • You cannot receive extra credit for clerical tasks. 

  • Teacher has the discretion to drop grades and to determine which grades to drop. 

  • Students receiving an incomplete and/or zero for a missed exam has one week to convert the incomplete grade to an earned grade.

Attendance Policy:

  1. Students are expected to attend class daily. 

  2. After TWO consecutive absences, a phone call will be made to home. 

  3. After THREE consecutive absences, an attendance referral will be submitted to the attendance office & AP. 

  4. Attendance will be taken daily within the first 10-15 minutes of class. 

  5. After TWO consecutive tardiness, students will receive a warning from the teacher. 

  6. After THREE consecutive tardiness, an attendance referral will be submitted to the attendance office & AP.

  7. After the tardy bell, the students are expected to sign the tardy log binder or Google Form. 

  8. If a student has excessive absences, the students may be sent to an Attendance Review Committee (ARC) meeting and may lose credit for the course

  9. Students leaving class (i.e. restroom, counselor, library, office, etc.) will need to sign the classroom exit log or exit/enter log.
