002 - TCH SP ED-SELF CONTD
I graduated from Martin High School. I attended College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois and continued my education in TAMIU. I also attended Grand Canyon University.
I have a Bachlors in Science with a major in Special Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education.
I am certified in Math, ESL, Core Subjects for Middle School
I started working at United South High School on September 11th, 2011. I started teaching Geometry and Math TAKS for STAAR in the resource setting. Two years later, I started teaching Algebra I. I taught that for two years and then became an MLC teacher as well as the Department Head for Special Education. I continue to work in those two positions. I love that I do. Working with challenging students has been my passion. All students need some compassion and understanding and a lot of love! I thinking teaching at-risk students before coming to USHS at Premier High School helped me open their eyes and hearts and instill in them the belief that they too can learn just like everybody else. Once they taste success, everything changes and they become successful individuals with a drive to pursue their dreams.
I started my teaching career at Premier High School in 1999 when the school opened here in Laredo. I worked as a Special Education teacher as well as helping all students with their respective classes.
I am happily married. We have no children of our own but do have children from previous marriages. I have two daughters and my husband has one daughter and three sons. I joke that together we are the “Brady Bunch”. All are married except for one of my stepsons. He has autism and lives in a group home. We do things together and try to spend as much time as we can as a family.
My favorite thing to do is bake and cook. Whenever I have a few minutes to spare, I like to see cooking shows, google different recipes, or read magazines that have new recipes. I also love to read a good book. I get lost in the pages and forget what is going on around me.
