Course Description: |

Career and technical education instruction provides content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills for students to further their education and succeed in current or emerging professions.
The Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster focuses on careers in designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing, and publishing multimedia content including visual and performing arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services.
Careers in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster require a creative aptitude, a strong background in computer and technology applications, a strong academic foundation, and a proficiency in oral and written communication. Within this context, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the various and multifaceted career opportunities in this cluster and the knowledge, skills, and educational requirements for those opportunities.
Students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences such as career and technical student organizations and other leadership or extracurricular organizations. Statements that contain the word "including" reference content that must be mastered, while those containing the phrase "such as" are intended as possible illustrative examples.

Attendance and Course Evaluation: |
Grades will be based on attendance, participation, and successful completion of various assignments, and projects throughout this course. Quizzes and tests will be given periodically to check your knowledge and multimedia skills. |
Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to attend class daily. After three absences, an attendance referral will be submitted to the attendance office. A maximum of eight absences per semester are allowed by UISD. If a student has excessive absences he/she may be sent to an Attendance Review Committee (ARC) meeting and may lose credit for the course.

Make-up work for excused absences will be allowed the amount of day’s student was absent. For unexcused absences maximum grade would be a 70.
Late work will be deducted a total of 10 points for each day after the due date. Work will no longer be accepted after the third day. It is best to complete an assignment late than not at all. Partial credit is better than no credit. It is very important that you keep track of project deadlines in order to maintain desired grades.
Final Exam:
A final exam will be administered at the end of every semester. This exam will be a certification exam.
Lab/Classroom Use |
Computer/Classroom guidelines and procedures are provided by the teacher to the students at the beginning of the school session. Students that abuse or misuse computer/lab/classroom equipment are subject to replace or pay for any damages caused by noncompliance to guidelines/ procedures.
Teaching Methods |
Lectures: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in class. Students should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student obtained outside resources relevant to topics being covered.
Assignments: In person and online activities will be assigned weekly to reinforce material in the text. These assignments may require the application of various software applications.
Quizzes: Occasional unannounced quizzes will be given to help ensure students keep up with assigned material.
Exams: Exams will be given in form of projects.
Participation: Student participation will be graded by the level of class participation.
Rules and Classroom Procedures
Teaching Methods
Students are required to adhere to these rules:
1. No food or drinks allowed on the desk or near the computer.
2. The use of cell phones is not allowed. Failure to comply will result in confiscation of the device and call to parents. A fee of $15.00 will need to be paid by the parent to retrieve the phone in the front office.
3. The student is not allowed in the teacher’s office unless the teacher is present.
4. Arrive on time; a call to parents will be placed after 3 late arrivals.
5. Ask for permission to leave the classroom and use the hall pass to avoid being returned to class by a security officer. Restroom break should not exceed 5-10 minutes if more time is needed, advise the teacher.
6. Respect the teacher and classmate: do not use profanity and be polite.
7. Keep your class clean and organized.
8. The student may read or use the computer standing if needed as long as they stay at their desk.
9. Privileges can easily be lost in my class if they become dishonest or disruptive.
10. Do not share your assignments with other students; I can tell if this is done! This is considered academics dishonesty and all students will be given "0"s and reported to school administration; other consequences may apply.
11. Follow district dress code – violation with result in a write up. After 2 warnings it will be submitted as a referral to the principal.
