Welcome to Mr. Jonathan Delgado’s English II and Reading II Classes!

Hello, parents, guardians, and students! I’m Mr. Jonathan Delgado, and I’m excited to welcome you to a new school year at United South High School. As your English II and Reading II teacher, I’m here to guide you through literature, enhance your reading strategies, and strengthen your writing skills. This year, we’ll be focusing on preparing for the English I and English II EOC STAAR Exams, equipping you with the tools and confidence needed to excel.

Course Overview
In English II and Reading II, students will engage with a variety of texts, from classic literature to contemporary works, exploring themes, analyzing characters, and honing essential reading and writing skills. Our activities will include reading assignments, discussions, writing exercises, and projects designed to challenge and inspire. We aim to develop critical thinking and language mastery that will be invaluable for the STAAR exams and your academic growth.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning thrives in a positive, inclusive environment where every student feels valued and encouraged. My goal is to create a classroom atmosphere that fosters curiosity, open expression, and skill development in reading and writing. I want each of you to feel empowered to share your ideas and build the skills needed for success on the STAAR exams and beyond.

Grading Guidelines

I value open communication with parents and guardians. My conference period is during 1st block from 8:15-10:00 am, and you’re welcome to reach out to me during this time. Both parents and students are encouraged to sign up to stay informed.

Tutorials
To support your learning and preparation for the STAAR exams, I will be holding tutorials every Wednesday. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, review material, and strengthen any areas of concern. I encourage all students to attend as needed.
