Remind: This is a text messaging service made for teachers to communicate with students.  I will not get your student’s number and they will not get mine.  I use this service to send out reminders for assignment due dates, test/quiz dates, or even to remind students to bring something to class the next day. Both you and your child can sign up. Just follow the directions on the Remind Instructions at the end of the syllabus .

United South High School Guidelines:

*Be Professional. *Be Respectful. *Be Responsible.

World History Course Overview: Within this course, students will not only learn about historical events, places, and people; they will also learn how “history” has and continues to influence our world today. This course will look at the past through the lens of today’s world and explore the impact of social, political, cultural, economic, and religious changes. This course will be taught and learned in a variety of different ways, including videos, student presentations, DBQ essays (Document Based Questions), reading, journaling/reflecting, current events, discussions, research, note taking, and lectures. Students will be encouraged and challenged to work with their classmates to discover “big picture” themes of world history that are still relevant today.

The Hall Pass is PRIVILEGE! Therefore, you sign-in and sign-out when the Hall Pass is in use (restroom, counselor, administrator, principal, library, other teacher, etc.). Do NOT ABUSE this privilege.

Schedule Changes:

Students need to visit their Counselor’s Google classroom in order to request a schedule change.  As soon as the schedule request has been approved, counselors will call students to their office and provide them a new schedule.  All changes will be done in the order they are received.

Absent or late work: If you have any questions about late work, absent or missing assignments please contact me before or after school not during class.  There is a system specifically set up in the classroom to help you become academically responsible for your own work but in the end, communication is key; please let me know how I can help you with missing work because at the end of the day it’s your grade. All assignments will be given a due date, typically due the next class. Students will receive a “0” in the grade book if an assignment is not turned in.If a student has an excused absence, they will receive the number of days they were absent to turn in their missing assignments. It is always the responsibility of the student to make arrangements to get all missing assignments in a timely manner.

Late assignments and projects will be penalized 10 points per day up to 3 instructional days. After the third day, students will receive a zero. Communication is the key.

Attendance Policy (Tardy)

Students must be on time and check-in each day as the attendance is based on this log. This method helps me keep a record of when students are absent or tardy in order to allow extra time for assignments and receive credit for the course. If a student does not check-in, s/he will be marked absent.

Grading Policy:

50% Assessments

  • Tests, Quizzes, Interactive Notebooks, Major Projects

25% Daily Work

  • Individual practice assignments, in-class activities, homework

25% Nine-week Exam (midterm/final)

Test/Quiz Make Ups and Redemption: Grades are not there to punish, but to show you how to improve. Retests will not be given. Redemptions will be given for up to a 70% credit with all missed questions corrected and explained. This may be in the form of an essay, or assignments. It is up to the student to come in during tutoring times to make those corrections. Redemption cannot be completed during class time. Test and quiz make-ups for those who were absent must be made up during the designated tutoring hours. For all makeup tests, quizzes, and redemption, students will have up to one week from the testing date to complete them. After the allotted time period, the grade will stay as is.

Tardy Policy: Per USHS policy, students are considered late the moment the tardy bell rings.  If students are not in the classroom before the bell rings, they must & will be marked absent until they show up, it will be tardy.

Other Important Info: Bathroom passes are not be used the first and last 15 minutes of class. Students will be allowed to go to the restroom based on teacher discretion, but never during direct instruction. Please plan to use the restroom during the passing period to avoid missing any instructional time. Students with special circumstances should have a pass through an administrator or from the nurse's office.
