I graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 1990 and continued my education at Texas A&M International University. There, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Spanish Literature with secondary education certification in the summer of 1998. Later, I pursued and completed a Master of Science in Mathematics with a Curriculum and Instruction track, also at Texas A&M International University, graduating in December 2024.
Here’s a list of the degrees and certifications I have earned earned:
I have actively pursued professional development by attending a variety of conferences and trainings aimed at enhancing my skills to better serve all student populations. This includes district-offered training, as well as specialized conferences, focused on supporting special education students, ESL students, students with disabilities, and gifted students. Additionally, I participate in technology training to integrate innovative platforms and tools into my classroom. These professional development opportunities are provided through the district, the College Board, summer learning sessions, online courses, APSI conferences, and private companies that work with the district.
Throughout my 26-year teaching career, I have been dedicated to United ISD, primarily teaching at the high school level. I began my journey in 1999 at United South High School, where I spent thirteen years shaping young minds. After that, I transitioned to United High School, where I taught for twelve years. This year, I have returned to United South High School, bringing my experience full circle. The only time I stepped out of the high school environment was for one summer school session at Los Obispos Middle School. Currently, this semester I am teaching Algebra II Pre-AP and Algebra II. Next semester, I will teach ALgebra II Pre-AP and TSI.
During my twelve years at United High School, I had the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects. These included foundational courses such as Algebra II, Algebra II Pre-AP, Pre-Calculus, and Pre-Calculus Pre-AP. Also, I taught college-level courses such as UT ONRamps Pre-Calculus and College Algebra. In addition to these core subjects, I also taught test preparation courses for the PSAT and TSI exams helping students prepare for their future academic endeavors.
