World History Course Description

Welcome to World History at United South High School! In this course, we will embark on an exciting journey through time, exploring the significant events, cultures, and individuals that have shaped our world. As we delve into the past, we will connect historical events to our modern-day society, examining how social, political, economic, cultural, and religious changes have influenced the world we live in today.

Throughout the course, students will engage with history in a variety of ways. We will utilize videos, student presentations, Document-Based Question (DBQ) essays, readings, reflective journaling, discussions, research, note-taking, and lectures to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment. Our goal is to uncover the “big picture” themes in world history and understand their relevance to current global issues.

This course is structured into nine major units that will guide our studies:

  1. Emergence of Civilization
  2. Eastern Classical Civilization
  3. Western Classical Civilization
  4. Riders, Traders, Crusaders
  5. Silk, Sand, Sea
  6. Connecting Hemispheres
  7. Age of Revolutions
  8. World Wars
  9. Modern World

Students will be encouraged to collaborate with their peers, think critically about historical developments, and apply their knowledge to contemporary global contexts. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of how history influences the present and will be better equipped to analyze the complexities of our world.

Please ensure you come to class prepared each day with the necessary materials, including your folder, writing utensils, and Chromebook. Together, we will make history come alive and gain valuable insights that will help us understand and navigate the world today.
